Blog #1: My Introduction

Hey guys! My name is Victoria Diaz and I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I am a Junior here at San Diego State majoring in Computer Science. Being a science major, I would say 80-90% of the people in my classes are guys. But I do like being part of the growing minority of women in a male dominated field! Programming is definitely one of those things that can be the most frustrating thing in the world and can make you want to cry because one little line of code messed everything up. However, I love finally seeing my code run how I wanted it to and thinking, "Wow I made that whole thing happen!" I'm not too sure what I want to do after I graduate but I've always had this idea of being that computer girl (or guy) on TV shows and movies that works for the FBI helping hack to catch criminals. I don't know, just an idea!

Lester's bigger than me!
One thing I LOVE in this world is my dog, Lester. He is a two year old German Shepherd that I rescued only 8 months ago. Since I was little, I've aaaalways wanted a dog! My parents, knowing how much work and attention dogs require, didn't budge as I kept begging for a dog, until eight months ago. Being a petite 5'1" girl, most people would think I would want a little lap puppy I could carry around in my purse. WRONG. I wanted a big cute German Shepherd. Enter my little Lester (but not actually little!) He's a great dog who's very smart but he definitely has his moments from barking all night at any little mouse he hears in the bushes to not eating his dog food because he wants only human food! Either way, he's my buddy and I'll always love him.

A hobby of mine is baking. Since I have a major sweet tooth, I love eating my treats too. I like to make things that are more than your basic chocolate chip cookies or cake. Some of my favorites are New York Cheesecake, eclairs, and chocolate mousse. They taste amazing! I love spending a Saturday watching YouTube videos on how to make different desserts, baking them, and making everyone around me try them. I was going to work in a bakery this summer and was pretty excited, but I ended up taking an internship instead that went really well. Unfortunate, yet, fortunate. The most recent thing I made was chocolate chip banana bread. It's great with coffee!

A school of fish we saw
I'm blessed enough to have a great family by my side. My immediate family consists of my mom, dad, and older brother. Like many people, we like to go on family vacations. My favorite trip so far is when we went to Honolulu, Hawaii last May. We stayed at an amazing beach front hotel with a view of the Waikiki Beach. We snorkeled at the famous Hanauma Bay where you can swim among the coral and see fish and sea turtles up close. We saw many different fish, but sadly, never saw any turtles swim by. This trip was especially fun for me because my boyfriend, Alberto, came too!

A picture of a picture! Senior Homecoming, aw!

Alberto and I met in high school (high school sweethearts) and he attends SDSU as well. Funny enough, he is also a Computer Science major! I guess we really do have a lot in common! He definitely made the Hawaii trip a little more fun since I had someone to keep up with me in all my adventures I wanted to tackle. I'm not sure my mom could stand snorkeling for five hours straight and getting a major sunburn on her back. Ouch!

Well I hope you got to know me a little better after this blog post! Thanks for reading!
